Taxi Scam WARNING!!!!

The most SHOCKING news I heard today

Two of my friends today came to varsity traumatized due to being robbed in a taxi by gun point, YES!!! I said robbed by gun point in a taxi.. It was so unbelievable because no one ever expects to be robbed in a taxi.

The first girl took a taxi from Bree coming to UJ along with other students and a guy from Wits, the taxi was supposed to turn down into UJ Bunting road campus instead it took another route and on its way to Mayfair a guy took out a gun and demanded everybody to give them their phones and bags with all their money, the guy from Wits asked the guys for his books and the robber gave it to him, when the girl asked for her student card the guy replied "student card sa masimba" and hit her on her head and the passengers could not get out because at the door was another guy. These students had nothing on them except for the one girl but what is a R2, they decided to walk all the way back to Bree and on their way they met police officers and told them their story, the police officers response was "we do not take complaints or transport people, report this at the police station" lucky for them they got good people along the way that gave them money for a taxi back home.

As shocked as I was sitting at the table in the cafeteria trying to gather myself with what I just heard, my classmate comes and tells us about his cousins incident that happened yesterday too, she took her taxi outside of campus on her way to Soweto instead of going the normal route this taxi takes a turn and the people start yelling in the taxi and the guys take out their guns and demand for the passengers phones, bags, money, etc. As soon as they received what they wanted the taxi driver stopped and two of the guys got out and pulled a girl out and said they are going to rape her, the guy punched this girl and she fell onto the ground, the guy put his arms around her and she pushed him away and started running and stopped at the first garage she saw, with nothing on her to go home with, she told a lady her story at the garage and the lady was kind enough to take her home.

This taxi scam is very shocking and scary because one does not expect to get robbed in a taxi at gunpoint with a lot of people inside, from now on I suggest people take extra precautions before getting on a taxi, if it means writing or remembering a number plate or not getting on a taxi with only 4 people inside or leaving earlier and making sure you leave with someone that you know or extra money and don't put it in one place.

It is really sad to know that people would go to such extremes to take away peoples belongings that they worked hard for while they sit at home and do nothing constructive and think of plans to hurt people, how does someone thrive on making someone suffer, taking something that is not theirs, it is very sad to see what South Africa is coming to, actually what our people are coming to, where not working hard is their plan but their hustle and ambition is to steal and hurt people.

If you have friends or family members that travel by taxi warn them about this shitty scam that people have come with, I hope and pray that everybody that comes across this scam may they leave that taxi unharmed.
